KTM retains Pol Espargaro as Vinales' replacement for the Austrian MotoGP Grand Prix.

Red Bull KTM has once again entrusted Pol Espargaro to fill Maverick Vinales' race seat for the Austrian MotoGP round. Espargaro will again ride alongside Pedro Acosta at the Red Bull Ring, Spielberg for Sunday's grand prix, while Vinales remains in the recovery process for his injury.

This decision was finalised after Espargaro demonstrated consistent positive progress throughout his recent substitute appearances. His latest performance at the San Marino MotoGP became a key reference point ahead of his return to the high-speed circuit characteristics of the Red Bull Ring.

At Misano last weekend, Espargaro secured 12th position. This result stands as an important milestone for the Spanish rider during his comeback period to MotoGP competition.

Red Bull KTM Team Manager Nicolas Goyon assessed that Espargaro's presence brings positive value to the team, primarily due to his established experience.

"It means a great deal to have Pol with us... Every time he climbs back onto the bike, he appears more comfortable and more competitive, and Misano marked another positive step forward," stated Red Bull KTM Team Manager Nicolas Goyon in an official MotoGP press release on Wednesday.

Espargaro had already completed three substitute outings for Vinales prior to this call-up. Silverstone, Aragon, and Misano were the three rounds he contested before receiving this additional opportunity in Austria.

With this appointment, the Austrian MotoGP will become Espargaro's fourth appearance standing in for Vinales. He will gain further chance to continue his adaptation process with the KTM machinery across different track conditions.

"We know we can rely on his experience and professionalism, and we look forward to watching him race in front of the orange army this weekend. At the same time, supporting Maverick's full recovery remains our absolute priority, and we hope he can return to join us as soon as possible," he added.

Concurrently, KTM continues to treat Vinales' rehabilitation as its top priority. The Spanish rider still requires additional recovery time before he will be medically cleared to return to race conditions.

With Vinales ruled out, Espargaro was once again selected to preserve KTM's team line-up for the Austrian MotoGP round.

For Espargaro personally, this opportunity allows him to prove his capability within the intense MotoGP competition. Having built experience across the three previous rounds, he heads to Austria with increased reference data regarding the bike's characteristics and race setup requirements.

The Red Bull Ring holds vastly different track characteristics compared to Silverstone, Aragon, and Misano. For this reason, Espargaro's next core challenge will be converting the progress gained from prior rounds into consistent on-track performance in Austria.

Separately, KTM is targeting a solid, dependable race weekend from the Espargaro and Acosta partnership. Espargaro will form a key part of the team's efforts to maintain competitive performance while they await their full-time rider's return.

Vinales is currently projected to recover in time to return for KTM at the Japanese MotoGP round. Until that confirmation however, Espargaro will remain the selected replacement for his seat.
