Persija Jakarta hold perfect momentum after winning their opening two matches of the 2026/27 Super League. However, for Shin Tae-yong, this record is no reason to lower their guard as the Macan Kemayoran side prepare to face Java United in matchweek three.

Persija will host Java United at Kapten I Wayan Dipta Stadium, Gianyar, Bali on Saturday 19 September, kicking off at 19.00 WIB. Three points remains Persija's core target to maintain their winning run and chase a third consecutive victory.

Shin Tae-yong has instructed his players to retain full concentration for the entire duration of the match. Persija will work to uphold their own established playing identity while denying Java United any space to build and develop their game.

For the South Korean head coach, discipline when executing the pre-planned match strategy is one of the key success factors. Persija must maintain focus while strictly following all instructions that have been prepared ahead of the fixture.

"As long as we do not drop our guard and can execute our game properly, I believe we will secure a good result," Shin Tae-yong stated, as quoted from the official I.League website on Saturday.

This warning was issued because Shin does not regard Java United as an easy opponent. Despite not yet reaching their full potential across the first two matches, Fabio Lefundes' squad are assessed to have a solid, well-structured playing system.

Shin also drew attention to the mobility and pace of Java United's players. These two attributes will become a serious threat to Persija's defensive line if the squad lose concentration at any point.

"We must stay alert and play the match properly," he added.

For this reason, Persija will not rely solely on their positive early season form. On-pitch performance will remain the deciding factor, especially as Java United possess the ability to apply heavy pressure when granted operating space.

Persija brought forward preparations for this fixture. The squad travelled to Bali two full days before the match, a break from their previous routine of arriving just one day ahead of kickoff.

"Preparations are proceeding well. We arrived two days before the match, not one. Right now, the players' condition management is also running very smoothly," Shin revealed.

This decision granted Persija extra time to acclimatise and adjust the squad's physical condition ahead of the match. With a congested competition schedule, fitness management has become a critical component of the team's preparations.

Results from last season's two head-to-head meetings also provide additional confidence for Persija. Back when they still operated under the name Malut United, Java United failed to beat Persija in their previous two encounters.

The first meeting was hosted by Persija on 23 August 2025. The fixture ended 1-1: Malut United took the lead through Yance Sayuri in the 71st minute, before Maxwell Souza equalised for Persija in the 82nd minute.

Persija claimed victory in the second meeting on 24 February 2026. Playing as the away side, Persija secured a 3-2 win via goals from Alaaeddine Ajaraie (8th minute), Jordi Amat (29th minute) and Fábio Calonego (80th minute).

Malut United mounted a late fightback with goals from Ciro Alves in the 78th minute and David da Silva four minutes later, with this final scoreline reflecting how tightly contested the match remained right until the final whistle.

Circumstances are now different. Malut United has completed its rebrand to Java United, and will face Persija once again in the Super League competition.

For Persija, while past head-to-head history provides context, it does not guarantee the result of this upcoming match. Shin Tae-yong has reminded his squad to remain focused, execute the match plan, and refuse the opposition any opportunity to settle into their rhythm.

Carrying two opening wins as their foundation, Persija are chasing a third consecutive victory. Their challenge in Gianyar will be to sustain this momentum without letting their defensive guard slip.
