Maung Bandung secured a 1-0 victory over FC Seoul in the 2026/2027 AFC Champions League Two Group E match, held at the Seoul World Cup Stadium in South Korea on Wednesday, 16 September 2026.
This win means far more than just three competition points.
Persib has become the first Indonesian football club to ever record a victory on South Korean soil in official Asian inter-club competition.

What makes this achievement even more notable is that this was also Persib's very first away match played in South Korea.
Persib had faced South Korean opposition before. Back in 1995, Maung Bandung went up against Ilhwa Chunma, the club now known as Seongnam FC. That match was hosted in Bandung however, and ended in a 2-5 defeat for Persib.
Now, over three decades later, Persib travelled to South Korea and walked away with a win instead.
There is an interesting historical detail tying these matches together. Shin Tae-yong, who was playing for Ilhwa Chunma at the time, scored one of the goals in that 5-2 victory over Persib.
This time around, the tables have turned.
Playing as the away side, Persib successfully overcame FC Seoul.
The winning goal came extremely early in the match.
In the 5th minute, Julio Cesar converted a corner kick delivered by Marc Klok to put Persib 1-0 ahead.
Notably, the goalscorer was not a striker or attacking player.
It was a defender who provided the decisive finish that secured Persib's win.
After taking the lead, Persib's work was far from over.
FC Seoul ramped up the pressure as they pushed for an equaliser, but Maung Bandung maintained disciplined structure and organisation throughout their gameplay.
Persib's backline held their focus throughout the match, while goalkeeper Teja Paku Alam played a critical role between the posts with a series of important saves.
Persib successfully defended their 1-0 lead until the final whistle.
This victory carries even more weight because FC Seoul is no ordinary opponent.

It is true that FC Seoul made heavy squad rotations for this match, giving playing time to fringe squad members and young players.

What is more, this is not the end of the meetings between Persib and FC Seoul.

Persib now head into that return match with the advantage of this away victory.
However, FC Seoul will also have the chance to respond when they travel to Indonesia.
