IndonesiaTravelSport.com - Ferran Torres emerged as Paris Saint-Germain's (PSG) saviour, scoring a brace that allowed the defending Ligue 1 champions to recover from a two-goal deficit and draw 2-2 against Rennes during the opening matchweek of the 2026/2027 French Ligue 1 season.

The Rennes vs PSG fixture was held at Roazhon Park on Sunday (23/8/2026) local time, equivalent to early Monday morning WIB. Torres came on as a substitute at the start of the second half, before netting his goals in the 71st and 82nd minutes.

This result marks an underwhelming start for PSG's Ligue 1 title defence campaign. Despite controlling the flow of the match, PSG fell 0-2 behind before eventually salvaging a single point.

PSG recorded 69% ball possession and registered 19 total shots across the full match. Rennes only held 31% possession with 9 attacking attempts in comparison.

PSG's dominance was also reflected in corner kick statistics: Luis Enrique's side was awarded 10 corners, while Rennes failed to win a single corner kick throughout the game. PSG also posted a 90% pass accuracy rate, against Rennes' 78%.

Even so, Rennes performed far more clinically when converting their scoring opportunities.

Rennes Build Two-Goal Advantage

Rennes opened the scoring just 9 minutes after kickoff. Sebastian Szymanski found the net after receiving a pass from Adrien Thomasson, putting the home side 1-0 ahead.

PSG attempted to increase pressure after conceding, but their possession dominance had not yet translated into a reply goal.

Instead, Rennes struck again in the 38th minute. Esteban Lepaul finished an attacking move created by Przemyslaw Frankowski to extend the scoreline to 2-0.

PSG did briefly put the ball in the net via Desire Doue, however this goal was disallowed for offside.

Trailing by two goals at the interval, Luis Enrique made personnel changes during the half time break. Ferran Torres replaced Ousmane Dembele, while Mika Godts came on for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

These substitutions would become the turning point of the entire match.

Torres Turns The Game Around

PSG continued to press forward in the second half, and their pressure finally paid off in the 71st minute.

Torres converted a pass from Fabian Ruiz to pull one goal back, bringing the score to 1-2. This strike spurred PSG to push even more aggressively for an equaliser.

Fabian Ruiz would once again provide the assist for Torres' second goal.

In the 82nd minute, the Spanish midfielder delivered the ball into the box which Torres met with a headed finish. The shot beat goalkeeper Brice Samba, levelling the match at 2-2.

These two goals immediately established Torres as the decisive player on his competitive debut for PSG.

Notably, match statistics confirm this comeback was not the result of a short burst of momentum. PSG had controlled proceedings from kickoff, finishing the game with 69% possession, 19 total shots, 5 efforts on target and 10 corner kicks.

Rennes only registered 3 shots on target for the entire match, though two of these resulted in goals.

After the score was levelled at 2-2, PSG continued to push for a late winning goal. No further goals were scored before the final whistle blew however.

PSG were therefore forced to settle for a single point taken away from Roazhon Park.

This result means both PSG and Rennes hold one point each after the first matchweek of the 2026/2027 Ligue 1 season.

While this draw represents an unconvincing start to PSG's title defence, it was a perfect personal debut for Torres, whose two goals rescued his new side from suffering an opening day defeat.

Rennes 2-2 PSG

Goals: Sebastian Szymanski 9', Esteban Lepaul 38' — Ferran Torres 71', 82'.
