Max Verstappen has reaffirmed his loyalty to Red Bull Racing after officially extending his contract until the end of the 2030 Formula 1 season. The four-time world champion has even opened the possibility of ending his entire racing career with the team that has become such a fundamental part of his professional journey.
Red Bull confirmed Verstappen's contract extension on 20 August 2026. This agreement secures the Dutch driver's place with the team through the conclusion of the 2030 season.
"I have always said... my goal and target is to retire at this team. I believe we are getting closer and closer to that moment," Verstappen stated, as quoted by Formula 1.

Verstappen clarified that this objective has not shifted, even though multiple years still remain before his contract expires.
"I mean, of course there are still several years ahead right now! But my target remains to retire with this team. That is exactly why I am so happy about this new signing, and we will absolutely be working to fight our way back to the front of the grid again," he added.
Red Bull As A Defining Part Of Verstappen's Career
Verstappen's association with Red Bull spans over a full decade. He first joined the Red Bull Junior Driver Programme in 2014, before making his Formula 1 debut with Toro Rosso -- now rebranded as Racing Bulls -- in 2015.
After delivering consistently promising performances, Verstappen received a promotion to Red Bull's senior factory team in 2016. He immediately made motorsport history by winning his very first Grand Prix start for the squad.
Since that milestone, Verstappen has grown into the central figure of the Red Bull outfit. He has claimed four Formula 1 World Driver's Championship titles, won consecutively in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.
At the time this new contract was announced, Verstappen had accumulated 71 Grand Prix victories during his tenure with Red Bull.
Verstappen now enters a new era with Red Bull, ahead of the upcoming major Formula 1 regulation overhaul coming into effect for 2026.
Prior Speculation Over Verstappen Departure
This contract extension running through 2030 brings an end to widespread speculation that had surrounded Verstappen's future beyond 2026.
Before the new agreement was announced, Verstappen's next career move stood as one of the biggest talking points across the entire Formula 1 driver market.
Red Bull had faced genuine concerns they could lose their star champion, after the team struggled for competitive car performance early in the current regulation cycle.
Mercedes had been heavily linked as a potential destination for Verstappen. Ultimately however, the 28-year-old driver chose to commit his long term future to Red Bull.
Red Bull Team Principal Laurent Mekies is cited as having played a key role in convincing Verstappen to remain part of the team's long term project.
Mekies had previously noted that Verstappen would stay with Red Bull for as long as the team could provide him with a race car capable of fighting for top honours.
In his official statement following the contract announcement, Verstappen restated his commitment to returning Red Bull to championship contention.
"I am incredibly happy about this contract extension. We have the best people here, and I am excited to keep working with everyone to get us back to the very top. That has always been our core objective, it is what we have fought for this entire time, and it is what we will keep pushing to achieve," he said.
2030 Contract Locks In Clear Long Term Future
This extension means Verstappen will complete his 12th through to 15th full competitive seasons driving for Red Bull. Their partnership has already delivered four World Driver's Championships and two Constructors' Championship titles.
For Verstappen, Red Bull is far more than just the team that carried him to four world titles. It has been an integral part of his identity and his entire racing journey, ever since he was a young rising talent.
