Indonesia national team has secured a ticket to the 2026 FIFA Esports World Cup, also referred to as FIFAe World Cup 2026, for the eFootball console category. This qualification was confirmed after the Garuda squad advanced to the final round of the 2026 FIFAe AFC Continental Championship by eliminating tournament hosts Malaysia in the semi-final fixture held in Kuala Lumpur.

Elga Cahya Putra and Mohamad Akbar Paudie battled through a tightly contested match before locking their spot in the title decider. The Red and White squad claimed victory over Malaysia with a final aggregate score of 2-1.

Indonesia Staged Comeback After First Leg Defeat

Indonesia's semi-final campaign was far from straightforward. In the opening leg, Elga and Paudie were forced to concede a 0-1 loss against the home side Malaysia.

This result left Indonesia with no choice but to win the second leg in order to keep their final qualification hopes alive.

The pair answered this pressure perfectly, overturning the deficit with a dominant 2-0 win in the return match.

This result saw Indonesia reverse the aggregate score to 2-1, officially confirming their place in the 2026 FIFAe AFC Continental Championship final.

The victory over Malaysia also secured Indonesia's return to the global esports world stage.

Japan Confirmed As Indonesia's Asian Final Opponent

Indonesia will face Japan in the continental final, scheduled to kick off on Saturday afternoon local Kuala Lumpur time.

Japan progressed following a dramatic comeback against Jordan. The side suffered a shocking 0-3 heavy defeat in the first leg of their semi-final tie.

They completely turned the tie around in the return match however, claiming a convincing 5-0 victory to advance to the final with an overall 5-3 aggregate score.

This upcoming meeting between Indonesia and Japan will decide the continental Asian title. Regardless of the final match outcome, Indonesia has already formally guaranteed their spot at the FIFAe World Cup 2026.

Third Consecutive Esports World Cup Qualification

The 2026 FIFAe World Cup will mark Indonesia's third straight appearance at the tournament for the eFootball console category.

Indonesia's highest achievement remains lifting the 2024 FIFAe World Cup console category title during the 2024 edition of the tournament.

One year later, the national squad once again competed at an elite level, finishing the 2025 tournament in 4th place overall.

This consistent track record solidifies Indonesia's status as one of the major powerhouse nations within the international competitive eFootball ecosystem.

Indonesian Mobile Squad Eliminated At Quarter Final Stage

Alongside the console division, Indonesia also fielded representatives for the eFootball mobile category at the 2026 AFC Esports Continental Championship.

Unfortunately, Indonesian athletes Alfin Pratama and Yoga Andisalasa saw their campaign end at the quarter final round following a defeat against representatives from Thailand.

This exit comes despite Indonesia holding a strong track record in the mobile division, having finished inside the top 8 at the 2024 FIFAe World Cup.

After securing their World Cup qualification through the dramatic tie against Malaysia, Elga and Paudie now have one final target: lift the 2026 FIFAe AFC Continental Championship trophy when they face Japan in the final.
