Marc Marquez was forced to settle for second position. The Ducati Lenovo Team rider crossed the finish line 1.026 seconds behind Martin.
Meanwhile, the final podium spot was claimed by Martin's Aprilia Racing teammate Marco Bezzecchi, who finished the race 1.675 seconds adrift of the race winner.
Drama Right From The Opening Lap
Martin had originally started the 2026 Austrian MotoGP Sprint Race from pole position at the very front of the grid.
However his race start did not go to plan. He immediately lost multiple positions and dropped all the way back to 8th place during the first lap.
His early on-track duel with Marc Marquez also pushed Martin further down the order, while Pedro Acosta capitalised on the chaos to take control of the race lead.
Acosta then built a comfortable lead of over two seconds ahead of the chasing pack, putting the young rider on clear course for victory.
This dynamic changed completely however as the sprint race entered its final phase.
With just three laps remaining, the race leading Acosta crashed out at Turn 2. This incident immediately eliminated him from contention for the win.
Martin, who had already been steadily climbing back through the field, had worked his way up to second position at this point. He seized the perfect momentum following Acosta's retirement.
The Aprilia rider took over the race lead, and defended his position cleanly all the way across the finish line.
Marc Marquez, running directly behind Martin, could not close the gap through the final laps. He finished in second place, with Bezzecchi completing the podium positions.
