English Premier League Results: Liverpool and Chelsea Failed to Win, Arsenal Climbs to the Top of the Standings

Liverpool failed to secure a victory once again during the fourth matchweek of the 2026/27 English Premier League, after being held to a goalless 0-0 draw against Fulham at Anfield on Saturday, 12 September 2026.

This result has further exposed Liverpool's inconsistent form at the start of the season. The Reds are yet to register a single home league win under head coach Andoni Iraola.

The single point brings Liverpool's total to 6 points, placing them 6th in the provisional league standings. Meanwhile, Fulham remain rooted in 17th position with just 1 point.

For this fixture, new signing Bradley Barcola was handed his first ever Premier League start for Liverpool.

However, Barcola's inclusion was not enough to restore the sharp attacking output Liverpool had displayed in prior matches against Ipswich Town and Atletico Madrid.

Alexander Isak produced the first dangerous attempt on Fulham's goal. After receiving a layoff from Barcola, the Liverpool striker struck an effort that drifted wide after rolling across the face of the opposition goalmouth.

Fulham soon seized control of match momentum and repeatedly troubled Liverpool's backline.

The Cottagers came within inches of taking the lead after Ryan Gravenberch lost possession from a short Alisson pass. Josh King went down inside the penalty area appealing for a spot kick, but the referee waved play on.

Fulham's pressure continued when Gonzalo Garcia fired an on-target effort. Liverpool were spared by Jeremy Jacquet, who was perfectly positioned to make a critical goal-line clearance.

Trapped under Fulham's pressure, Liverpool struggled to build any structured attacking play. Oscar Bobb had a half chance but failed to bring the ball under clean control.

Liverpool eventually created openings through Victor Munoz and Florian Wirtz, only for Bernd Leno to put in an outstanding performance between the posts for Fulham.

The German goalkeeper pulled off a fine reaction save to deny Munoz's powerful header. Shortly afterwards, Wirtz also missed the target, dragging his effort wide of the right post.

Fulham carved out another chance through Antonee Robinson, whose header at the end of a well-worked team attack also finished off target.

The first half ended goalless, with the Anfield crowd openly showing frustration at their side's flat performance.

Entering the second half, Iraola made a triple substitution, introducing Milos Kerkez, Cody Gakpo and Alexis Mac Allister.

Mac Allister made an immediate impact, forcing Leno into another smart stop with a driven long-range strike.

Leno denied Liverpool once again, blocking Alexander Isak's close-range attempt from inside the penalty box.

At the opposite end, Fulham continued to carry a threat, with Alisson kept busy protecting Liverpool's goal.

The Brazilian goalkeeper first parried Calvin Bassey's header, before producing an excellent diving save to tip Josh King's goal-bound strike away from the top right corner.

Liverpool attempted to ramp up attacking intensity in the closing stages, but their efforts appeared rushed and disorganised.

Isak had another headed opportunity which missed the frame, while Rio Ngumoha also failed to convert Jeremie Frimpong's cross.

No goals arrived before the full time whistle. Liverpool were forced to accept the 0-0 draw, once again squandering the chance to collect three points on home soil.

Chelsea Avoid Defeat

In another fixture, Chelsea also failed to claim maximum points after being held to a 2-2 draw by Hull City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday 12 September 2026, also in the fourth Premier League matchweek.

Chelsea had taken an early lead through Morgan Rogers, before Hull City turned the fixture around with two goals from Mohamed Belloumi.

Joao Pedro ultimately rescued Chelsea from defeat, with the Brazilian forward registering both a goal and an assist on the day.

This result leaves both clubs inside the top four of the provisional standings. Hull occupy 3rd place, with Chelsea sitting one position below them.

Chelsea started the match on the front foot, and Rogers fired the home side ahead in the 7th minute.

Receiving a through ball from Joao Pedro, Rogers hit a low driven shot that found the near corner of Hull's goal.

This goal marked the first time Hull City had conceded in the Premier League all season.

Chelsea's lead was short lived however, as Belloumi equalised for Hull in the 20th minute.

Jorrel Hato misjudged Ryan Giles' cross, leaving Belloumi unmarked to finish neatly past Emiliano Martinez.

Just six minutes later, Hull completed the turnaround.

After Semi Ajayi's header crashed off the Chelsea crossbar, Oli McBurnie laid the ball off to Belloumi who converted clinically to put Hull 2-1 ahead.

Chelsea increased their pressure after the half time break. Reece James came close to levelling in the 53rd minute with a free kick, but Konstantinos Tzolakis produced a fine save.

Chelsea finally found their equaliser in the 66th minute.

Cole Palmer pulled the ball back across the penalty area, and Joao Pedro struck a powerful finish into the net to level the scores at 2-2.

The Blues continued to push for a winning goal, but Hull's defence held firm through the final minutes.

Hull almost stole all three points in the 88th minute, but Martinez was equal to Mohamed-Ali Cho's well placed effort.

Deep into stoppage time, Chelsea appealed for a penalty after Estevao's cross appeared to strike Semi Ajayi's arm inside the box. No penalty was awarded.

The 2-2 scoreline remained until full time, with both Chelsea and Hull City forced to settle for a single point.

Arsenal Maintain Perfect Record At The Summit

Elsewhere, Arsenal capitalised on dropped points from their rivals with a 2-0 away victory over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, in a fixture that kicked off late Sunday WIB.

Arsenal's goals came via Bruno Guimaraes in the 58th minute, and Bukayo Saka from the penalty spot in the 7th minute of stoppage time.

This victory takes Arsenal to 12 points from four matches. The Gunners hold a three point lead over second placed Manchester City, though City still have an outstanding fixture against Manchester United scheduled for Sunday evening WIB.

Sunderland remain in 14th place on 4 points.

Arsenal dominated proceedings right from kick off. Bukayo Saka had an early close range chance, but Robin Roefs made the stop.

Sunderland responded shortly after, as Daniel Ballard headed wide from Granit Xhaka's cross at the back post.

Arsenal kept pushing forward. Gabriel Magalhaes saw a low shot drift just wide, before Kai Havertz had an effort from inside the area saved once again by Roefs.

Sunderland also created chances of their own. Enzo Le Fee found space to shoot from 23 metres out, but could not hit the target.

The first half finished goalless. While Arsenal controlled possession comfortably, Sunderland successfully kept the scores level.

The game opened up after the half time break. Sunderland came out attacking, and won a penalty in the 54th minute when Daniel Ballard was fouled by Ezri Konsa inside the box.

Le Fee stepped up to take the spot kick, but David Raya guessed correctly to keep out the low effort.

This save proved to be the match turning point.

Four minutes later, Arsenal broke the deadlock.

Second half substitute Bruno Guimaraes fired a spectacular long range strike into the top corner of Sunderland's goal to put Arsenal 1-0 up.

Saka almost doubled the lead shortly afterwards when he found space inside the penalty area, but his shot was straight at Roefs.

Sunderland continued to push for an equaliser right into stoppage time.

Any comeback hopes were ended when Reinildo was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for fouling Saka inside the penalty area.

Saka took the resulting penalty himself, and the Arsenal captain converted perfectly to make the final score 2-0.

No further goals arrived before full time. Arsenal left with all three points, maintaining their perfect season start with four wins from four matches.

This result also extends Arsenal's dominant head to head record against Sunderland. Across the last 30 Premier League meetings between the two sides, Arsenal have lost just once, with 19 wins and 10 draws.
