Ende Traditional Village in Pujut District has now become one of the alternative travel destinations for tourists following the fire that hit Sade Traditional Village, Central Lombok. At Ende Traditional Village, visitors can gain an up-close understanding of the daily life and traditions of the Sasak community.

Ende Traditional Village is easily accessible, located only approximately 2.3 kilometres from Sade Traditional Village. After the fire incident in Sade, a number of travellers have rerouted their trips to Ende Traditional Village.

Local guide Daigo stated that this route shift has driven an increase in visitor numbers to Ende Traditional Village.

"This rise is partially triggered by travellers changing their visit itineraries after the fire broke out at Sade Traditional Village," he stated.

However, the growing number of visits is not solely caused by this tourism route shift. Even before the fire struck Sade, tourists including international travellers had already been regularly visiting Ende Village.

Daigo noted that visitor counts have continued to increase over time. On regular weekdays, the village receives an average of around 400 tourists, while this number can reach up to 700 people on weekends.

"Thank God, more and more visitors come to Ende Sasak Village every day. Even before the fire disaster occurred in the neighbouring village, foreign tourists had already frequently visited this location," said Daigo.

Tracing Sasak Cultural Footprints

Ende Traditional Village is not a new cultural destination. This area was first established in 1998 with only five traditional indigenous houses.

After being officially inaugurated as a tourist attraction in 2001, Ende Village has developed into a cultural settlement that is currently home to approximately 35 households.

For tourists, the core appeal of Ende lies in the experience of observing Sasak community life that still strongly preserves traditional customs.

The traditional house architecture, authentic village atmosphere, and warm hospitality of the residents all form part of an unforgettable visitor experience.

This authenticity is one of the main reasons tourists continue to choose Ende Traditional Village as a destination when exploring the Central Lombok region.

Tourist Arrivals Boost Local Community Economy

The increase in tourist visits does not only show through activity within the village area. This flow of visitors brings economic benefits for local residents and micro-business owners who rely on tourism activities for their income.

Ina Ganjah, a souvenir vendor, has experienced this impact first-hand. The woman originally from Java, who has resided in Ende Village for 12 years, confirmed her income has risen significantly especially during holiday seasons and weekends.

On regular weekdays, her daily turnover ranges from IDR 200,000 to IDR 300,000. When tourist numbers peak, her daily income can reach between IDR 600,000 and IDR 700,000.

Learning Lessons From The Sade Traditional Village Fire

Amid the rising visitor numbers, the management of Ende Traditional Village has begun strengthening safety measures. The fire that struck Sade Traditional Village on 22 August 2026 serves as a reminder that tourist destinations based around traditional housing carry unique inherent challenges.

Sasak traditional houses, with thatched roofs and wooden structural frames, have very high vulnerability to fire hazards.

For this reason, the Ende Traditional Village management has deployed portable fire extinguishers (APAR) obtained through corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs.

This measure is part of preparedness efforts to mitigate potential fire risks, while also ensuring the safety of both visiting tourists and local residents.
