Emil Audero joins Rayo Vallecano, the Indonesia National Team now has players competing in 4 of Europe's top football leagues.

The distribution map of Indonesian National Team players across Europe's elite competitions continues to grow. Following Emil Audero Mulyadi's transfer to Rayo Vallecano, the Garuda squad now has four active players competing in four out of Europe's top five leagues for the 2026/2027 season.

These four competitions are Spain's LaLiga, Italy's Serie A, Germany's Bundesliga, and France's Ligue 1. The only major European top flight that no Indonesian player has yet featured in remains the English Premier League.

While Rayo Vallecano has not formally announced Emil's transfer via the club's official website or social media channels, the 29-year-old goalkeeper's details were already listed on the official LaLiga registry as of 1 September 2026.

Audero joins Rayo Vallecano on a loan deal from Como 1907. His arrival in Spain's top football division further reinforces the expanding footprint of Indonesian players on Europe's elite football stage.

From Italy to Spain

In Serie A, Indonesian National Team captain Jay Idzes was the first to establish himself in Italian domestic football. Idzes has represented Sassuolo since the 2025 summer transfer window, following two previous seasons with Venezia.

Idzes' career path stands as a key marker of progress for Indonesian players in Europe. Having progressed from Venezia to Sassuolo, he has remained a consistent competitor at Italy's highest domestic football level.

Kevin Diks is the Indonesian player active in the Bundesliga. Diks has delivered standout performances for Borussia Mönchengladbach, earning the trust of the club to serve as vice-captain.

Diks' presence does not only add another name to the list of Indonesians in top European leagues - it also proves that Indonesian players are capable of holding senior, trusted roles within their clubs.

Meanwhile, Calvin Verdonk competes in France's Ligue 1. The Indonesian defender joined Lille from NEC Nijmegen during the 2025 summer transfer window.

This season brings greater challenge for Verdonk, after Lille secured qualification for the Champions League. He will now compete not only in French domestic fixtures, but also gain experience on Europe's continental club football stage.

Audero Departs Como

Audero's move to Rayo Vallecano came amid shifting circumstances at Como, following the club's signing of Robert Sanchez from Chelsea.

The arrival of the Spanish international goalkeeper further limited Audero's prospects. Even before Sanchez joined the squad, Audero was already not Cesc Fabregas' first choice between the posts.

The Mataram-born goalkeeper had spent most of his time at Como acting as back-up for first choice keeper Jean Butez.

Rayo Vallecano, who were actively searching for additional goalkeeper cover, provided a viable exit route.

This loan arrangement works as a mutually beneficial solution: Rayo acquires an experienced additional goalkeeper, while Audero receives a clear opportunity to earn regular match minutes.

During the previous season Audero completed a loan spell at Cremonese. With La Cremo, he was handed consistent starting opportunities and established himself as the club's first choice goalkeeper.

He featured in multiple high stakes fixtures, and successfully regained the match rhythm of a regular starting goalkeeper.
