BWF World Championships 2026: Facing higher-favoured opponents, Marwan and Aisyah choose to play in a relaxed, free-flowing manner.

Marwan Faza / Aisyah Salsabila Putri Pranata will face Mathias Christiansen / Alexandra Boje in the round of 32 of the 2026 BWF World Championships in New Delhi, India, this Wednesday. The Indonesian mixed doubles pair have opted to compete with no pressure when going up against the higher-seeded Danish duo.

Marwan / Aisyah will take on Mathias Christiansen / Alexandra Boje on Court 2 at 17:10 WIB. This match will be a far tougher test, after the pair previously progressed through the opening round with a straight two-game victory over the Serbian representatives.

The Indonesian pairing are fully aware that Christiansen / Boje enter this fixture as the clear favourites. For this reason, Aisyah has stated they will play freely and capitalise on every opportunity that arises.

"Against this Danish pair, we are just going in with a nothing to lose mentality, as they are the more favoured side," Aisyah stated in an official PBSI press release.

Marwan / Aisyah advanced to the round of 32 after defeating Serbia's Mihajlo Tomic / Andjela Vitman 21-16, 21-14 on Tuesday, 18 August.

Despite recording a straight games win, Marwan assessed that their performance was still far from perfect, particularly regarding their on-court mentality and self-confidence.

"We still need to rebuild our confidence, we still have to strengthen our mental focus. We felt our preparation and readiness in training was solid, but once out on court today, personally I just wasn't feeling in good form," Marwan explained.

Opting To Play Freely

Marwan expressed gratitude that they came through their first match without any physical issues. However, he acknowledged that the win was not achieved with their best performance.

"Alhamdulillah, we came away from today's match with a win and no injuries. But we feel our play was still lacking," he said.

For this reason, the upcoming clash against Christiansen / Boje will be an opportunity to prove they can perform more relaxed, while also fixing the weaknesses shown in their previous match.

Coming into this fixture as the underdogs actually works as a psychological advantage for the pair. With no heavy targets placed on them, Marwan / Aisyah are able to play without restraint and put pressure on their opponents whenever an opening appears.

For Aisyah, making her World Championships debut is already an incredible experience. She admitted that she never expected to get the chance to compete on badminton's biggest global stage.

"I was shocked and never thought I would get to play at the World Championships, but we were so happy once we stepped out onto that court," Aisyah said.

Marwan / Aisyah are one of 14 Indonesian representatives scheduled to compete on Wednesday in the round of 32 at the 2026 BWF World Championships.
