Jakarta - Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) will face two European giants, Barcelona and Manchester City, in the 2026/2027 UEFA Champions League league phase. Meanwhile, Real Madrid will come up against Inter Milan and Arsenal.

The 2026/2027 Champions League league phase draw was held at the Grimaldi Forum, Monaco on Thursday evening WIB. The draw ceremony was hosted by UEFA General Secretary Giorgio Marchetti alongside football legends David Villa and Thierry Henry.

A total of 36 clubs were sorted into four seeding pots based on UEFA club coefficient rankings. As title holders, PSG was placed in Pot 1 alongside Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Inter Milan, Manchester City, Arsenal, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid.

PSG Drawn Against Barcelona and Manchester City

The draw results paired Les Parisiens with Barcelona and Manchester City for two out of their eight scheduled league phase matches.

PSG will host Barcelona at home, then travel to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City. The PSG vs City fixture is set to be one of the highest profile matchups of the opening phase.

Alongside Barcelona and Manchester City, PSG will also face Aston Villa, Villarreal, AS Roma, Galatasaray, Slovan Bratislava, and Como.

Manchester City Also Drawn Against Barcelona

Manchester City will face not only PSG, but also Barcelona during the league phase.

This means all three elite European clubs will clash directly right from the opening stage. PSG will meet both Barcelona and City, while City will also go head to head with Barcelona.

This three-way blockbuster battle has become one of the core attractions of this Champions League season.

Along with away trips to PSG and Manchester City, Barcelona will also face Aston Villa, Sporting CP, Galatasaray, Feyenoord, Como, and Sabah.

Real Madrid Face Inter and Arsenal

Spanish giants Real Madrid also received a very difficult draw.

Los Blancos will face Inter Milan, Arsenal, and AS Roma. The most decorated club in Champions League history will also compete against PSV Eindhoven, RB Leipzig, LASK, Shakhtar Donetsk, and AEK Athens.

Arsenal also avoided no easy opposition. The Gunners will face Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Napoli. Their remaining four opponents are Lille, Real Betis, Slavia Prague, and Sabah.

Manchester United's Fixtures

Returning to the Champions League, Manchester United have been drawn against Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, AS Roma and RB Leipzig. For their other four matches, the Red Devils will face Sporting CP, Villarreal, Como, and Sabah.

2026/2027 Champions League Competition Format

The 2026/2027 Champions League retains the new 36-team league phase structure. Every club will play 8 matches against 8 different opposing sides.

This format replaces the traditional system of small 4-team groups used in all prior Champions League editions.

After all 8 matches are completed, the top 8 clubs in the unified standings will qualify directly to the Round of 16.

Clubs finishing 9th to 24th will compete in two-legged playoff ties to battle for the remaining 8 Round of 16 spots.

All teams placed 25th to 36th will be eliminated from the competition immediately.

This format gives critical weight to every single league phase match. Elite sides cannot only focus on winning high profile fixtures, they must also avoid dropping points against lower ranked opposition.
