Shin Tae-yong did not use the final score as his primary measurement while Persija Jakarta conducted this pre-season trial match in Thailand. Even though Macan Kemayoran defeated Police Tero 2-1, the South Korean head coach prioritised observing the development of the team's playing structure and tactical implementation.

According to Shin, this friendly fixture hosted at the Alpine Football Camp Training in Bangkok on Wednesday acted as an opportunity to gauge how well players could execute coaching instructions across the full 90 minutes. For this reason, the end result was not the main focus for his evaluation process.

"Right now, more important than the scoreline is how the match flows, our playing patterns, and how effectively the players are able to follow the tactics requested by the coaching staff. I believe what we observed here was very positive," stated STY, in an official quote published on Persija's website on Thursday.

Persija claimed the victory thanks to two goals from Rayhan Hannan, who had only just returned from international duty with the Indonesian National Team at the 2026 ASEAN Hyundai Cup.

Nevertheless, Shin's attention was not only directed at the goalscorer. He granted every registered squad member the chance to take the field during this match.

All Players Given Playing Time

Shin deployed completely separate lineups for the first and second halves. This strategy allowed every player to earn match minutes, while also giving them the opportunity to apply concepts drilled during over one week of training camp in Thailand.

Using this system, the coaching staff was able to track the progress of each individual player in a proper competitive match environment.

This approach also meant the fixture against Police Tero functioned as a full squad readiness simulation, rather than simply a game played to secure a win.

Shin later gave his appreciation for the squad's overall performance. He noted clear signs of improvement following Persija's intensive training block in Thailand.

"Every player completed one full half of football. Their physical conditioning held up well, and I believe they all performed to a good standard," he added.

Chiangrai United To Be Final Test In Thailand

The victory against Police Tero was a positive outcome, but Persija's programme in Thailand has not yet concluded.

Macan Kemayoran have one remaining trial match scheduled against Chiangrai United on Saturday 22 August. This fixture will be Shin's final opportunity to assess team development before the Thailand training camp concludes.

The clash with Chiangrai United is also planned as a significantly harder test for Persija, after their previous match against Thai second tier club Police Tero.

For Shin, every fixture serves a separate, defined purpose in building the team. The Police Tero match was utilised to evaluate tactical application and individual growth across the entire squad.

Meanwhile, the upcoming fixture will provide the chance to test overall squad readiness against opposition that competes at a higher standard.
