Harry Kane Surpasses Cristiano Ronaldo's Goal Record, Only Trails Behind Lionel Messi

Harry Kane concluded the 2025/2026 season with a goal tally that places him among the most prolific finishers in modern football history. The Bayern Munich striker even surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo's all-time single-season goal record.

Kane registered a total of 73 goals across club and international level throughout the 2025/2026 campaign. From this total, 61 goals were scored for Bayern Munich, while the remaining 12 came while representing the England Men's National Team.

Kane's haul exceeded Ronaldo's record set during the 2011/2012 season, when the Portuguese superstar recorded 69 total goals across one full season.

However, Kane does not hold the absolute single season goal record. He still ranks below Lionel Messi, who netted 82 goals in an equivalent single season.

"I grew up watching Messi and Ronaldo, through the entire era where they dominated and continue to dominate this sport," the former Tottenham Hotspur striker stated to TNT Sports.

Kane Surpasses Ronaldo

Kane has now positioned himself between Messi and Ronaldo on the list of the most lethal single-season strikers in history.

"Obviously Messi is the only player that ever scored more in a season with that 82 goal haul. But outside of that one exceptional season, Ronaldo's highest single season total was, as far as I'm aware, 69 goals," he added.

This goal tally demonstrates Kane's consistent goalscoring form for both Bayern Munich and England. His productivity was not limited to one single competition, but spread evenly across domestic club fixtures and international matches.

Kane admitted he once could not imagine ever reaching the standards previously set by Messi and Ronaldo.

"I used to think scoring that many goals in one season was impossible. Those two are the greatest players of our generation, arguably the greatest of all time. So to hit 73 goals? Even I am completely astonished by what I have managed to achieve," Kane said.
